We know that evening workshops don’t suit everyone, so we’re delighted to offer this special Sunday daytime Paintopia session for those who have been wanting to join us.

In this relaxed workshop at Calme, you’ll paint a glowing sunset over the Irish Sea, with the sweeping curves of the famous Mary’s Shell sculpture rising from the water.

With step-by-step guidance from Lindsay, you’ll learn how to create a soft sunset sky, capture the movement of the sea, and paint the distinctive shape of this much-loved local landmark.

No experience is needed — just come along, enjoy a calm creative morning and leave with a canvas you’ll be proud to hang at home.

The Story Behind Mary’s Shell - 

Just off the promenade at Cleveleys, Mary’s Shell has become one of the Fylde Coast’s most recognisable landmarks.

Created by artist Stephen Broadbent and installed in 2012 as part of the Sea Swallow public art trail, the sculpture’s sweeping forms echo shells, waves and sea life.

It was named Mary’s Shell in memory of Mary Brennan, a local woman who loved the sea and the Cleveleys coastline. Today the sculpture stands as both a striking piece of contemporary art and a quiet tribute overlooking the Irish Sea.

At sunset, when the sky glows and the sea reflects the evening light, Mary’s Shell becomes one of the most beautiful sights along the promenade — and that magical moment is what this painting captures.
