Introduction to Sewing Machines 💖

Always wanted to learn to sew, or feeling a little rusty and ready to try again? This gentle, friendly workshop will help you take those first steps, with plenty of encouragement along the way.

Perhaps you’re dreaming of making gifts for loved ones, creating things for your home, or even starting a little business of your own. Whatever brings you along, you’re welcome at Calme.

You’ll learn on our beautiful new sewing machines, with skills you can transfer to other machines as your confidence grows.

What you’ll learn

• What the main buttons, dials and controls do
• How to thread a machine and wind a bobbin
• Simple stitches and when to use them
• How to practise starting, stopping and guiding your fabric
• What to check when things aren’t going quite to plan

A little time to learn and connect

Our workshops are small and welcoming, with no expectation to arrive knowing anything at all. There’s time to ask questions, practise, have a chat and enjoy a tea or coffee together.

You don’t need to get everything right first time. We’re here to help you feel comfortable enough to have a go, make a few mistakes and try again.

• Suitable for complete beginners and those wanting a refresher
• Approximately two hours, including a refreshment break
• Tea or coffee included
• Maximum of four participants
• £39 per person
• Use of a Calme sewing machine included

We recommend booking one of our private sessions, where you can bring your own machine and enjoy one-to-one tuition, with time to get to know it together. Contact us for details.
